Course details
A closer look at why report setup matters and what this training explains.
Why report setup matters
This module focuses on the setup choices that determine whether a report is accurate, useful, and aligned with the question being asked. Reporting problems often start long before a report is run, usually in the choices made about dates, filters, groupings, formats, or layout, so this training is designed to make those decisions clearer and more intentional.
Dates and report structure
The course begins with report dates, including the difference between default and custom reports, how to set dates based on the fiscal year, and how Balance Date and Current Period Date fields affect the result. It then moves into the Setup tab, where report naming, date ranges, and simulated year-end close behavior shape the basic report framework.
Content, filters, and groups
Once the foundation is set, the training explains how the Content, Filter, and Group tabs affect what appears in the report and how it is organized. That includes selecting which items to include, applying filters for more targeted outputs, and assigning segments to Group Sets so the report structure supports better analysis instead of forcing extra cleanup later.
Layouts, security, and statement formats
The module also covers Layout and Security settings, including fonts, page setup, and who can access the report. It then moves into financial statement formats and reporting icons, which helps tie the setup work to the final output and gives a clearer understanding of how standard financial statements are built and refined inside MIP.
